Paul Crouch is delighted to be the Headteacher of St George Madrid, a role he began in August 2025. With over 25 years of experience in international education, Mr Crouch is deeply committed to creating a nurturing, dynamic, and academically rigorous environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential. His background in global citizenship education, developed through work in both international and British systems across multiple countries, is second to none and underpins his vision for preparing young people to succeed in an ever-changing world.
Before taking on his current role, Mr Crouch served as Whole School Deputy Head in three large schools across Thailand, the UK, and Spain, where he gained wide-ranging leadership experience and a deep understanding of diverse educational contexts. In addition, he has been a trustee on the Board of Round Square for a number of years, championing the values of internationalism, democracy, environmentalism, adventure, leadership, and service. At St George Madrid, he is proud to lead a community that values academic achievement, creativity, wellbeing, and global citizenship in equal measure.
Meet Tommy, our dedicated Head of Primary. Originally from Stirling in Scotland, Tommy is incredibly passionate about St. George and the values that the school represents.
After spending many years in London as a teacher, Tommy joined St. George in 2018 as a class teacher before spending four years as our Head of Additional Learning Needs. He has a clear vision of the primary school in St. George being a community where each individual is valued and cared for to ensure that they flourish throughout their learning journey. It is his firm belief that learning should be fun and that each child should enter and leave the school each day.
Outside of school, Tommy is a keen runner and walker and recently completed the Portuguese Coastal route of the Camino de Santiago. He loves travelling and discovering new places (especially the food) as well as enjoying all that Madrid has to offer.
Meet Helen, our passionate teacher and Deputy Head of Primary. Helen’s journey to teaching is a unique one, shaped by her diverse professional background. Before entering the education field, she spent several years in the retail buying division at Tesco, a role that took her across the globe and allowed her to live in Hungary for three years. This experience not only broadened her cultural understanding but also sparked her deep interest in education.
After completing a Masters in Business, Helen shifted her focus to teaching, motivated by the joy of helping children grow and learn. She returned to university to complete a PGCE in primary education and has never looked back. With a career now spanning over 11 years at St George, Helen has taught children across both the upper and lower Primary levels, and her wealth of experience continues to enrich the lives of her students.
Helen’s teaching philosophy is built around the belief that learning should be engaging, interactive, and fun. She loves seeing her students’ curiosity sparked and is always excited when they come to share new things they’ve learned. As Deputy Head of Primary, Helen plays a crucial role in shaping the academic direction of the Primary department, ensuring that every child’s learning journey is supported and enriched.
Outside of school, Helen is an avid traveller, always seeking new adventures with her family. She’s also a big fan of Atlético Madrid and is actively involved in a Girl Scouts organisation.
Helen’s commitment to education, paired with her diverse experiences, makes her a valued and inspiring member of the St George’s community.
“The best part of teaching is seeing a child’s face light up when they discover something new. It’s a privilege to be a part of their learning journey.”
Meet Nicholas Johnsin, Head of Secondary at St George Madrid. Originally from Northamptonshire, Nick studied English Literature at the University of Northampton before completing a PGCE in Secondary English teaching at the University of Bedfordshire in 2011-12.
After teaching in the UK, Nick joined St George Madrid in 2016 as Head of English. Since then, Nick has worked to support students and teachers in the English department, helping to develop a strong and engaging curriculum. In September 2024, Nick took on the role of Head of Secondary, continuing to focus on creating a supportive and ambitious learning environment for all students.
Outside of school, enjoys travelling across Europe, reading a good book and spending time in the countryside.
Melody is originally from Wales and studied Psychology and Sociology at Swansea University before setting off on a two-year trip around the world - an experience that inspired her to become a teacher. She went on to complete her PGCE at Brighton University and has now spent over 30 years in education, with 15 years teaching in the UK and 15 years here in Madrid.Â
During her time in Madrid, Melody has taken on a variety of leadership roles, including Academic Leader at King’s College, KS3 Coordinator and Head of Data, Assessment & Tracking at Hastings School, and Head of Secondary at Maxwell School. She joined St George in September 2024 and is excited to begin this academic year as Acting Deputy Head of Secondary.Â
Alongside her leadership role, Melody still loves teaching Maths and continues to find joy in the classroom. She is especially passionate about supporting student wellbeing, celebrating diversity and inclusion, and helping every young person feel confident, valued, and ready to thrive.Â
