In the first two years of secondary school, students continue with the foundational subjects of the curriculum, which serve as the basis for their future academic studies. In Year 7, which is equivalent to Primary 6, they begin learning French or German as a foreign language.

Exams and qualifications

At St. George School in Madrid, students prepare for globally recognised qualifications, including IGCSE exams during Secondary School and the IB Diploma in Sixth Form. These credentials open doors to universities in Spain and abroad, offering students a truly international pathway.

Our school is an authorised Cambridge examination centre and undergoes regular inspections to ensure compliance with British educational standards. Recognised by regional authorities and certified by the British Council, St. George Madrid enables students to seamlessly validate their studies in Spain upon completing Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form.

British education stages

In the British education system, Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) supports children aged 11 to 14, focusing on academic and social skill development. At St. George, Key Stage 3 is completed in Years 7 and 8, with students starting their IGCSE programme in Year 9.

Upper Secondary (Years 9 to 11, ages 13 to 16) involves the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme, which assesses a broad range of subjects and skills. These years prepare students for final IGCSE exams at the end of Year 11, forming a strong foundation for future education and career opportunities.
